The Steketee weeder has rubber fingers that move the soil close to the plant and disturbs small weeds moving their roots to the surface where they will dry out and not regrow. We also find that causing a small level of soil disturbance around root mass of the broccoli liberates more nitrogen and increase microbial activity which in turn promotes the growth of the plants.
