The wet weather has delayed our drilling but we made a start last week when we had a break in the weather. We drill later than some farms as the extra time enables us to create a stale seed bed to reduce weed burden and also we aim to miss any pest pressure that can be more prevalent in the warmer conditions of the early autumn.
We are drilling a wheat variety called Extase that has good disease resistance and will grow relatively tall in the hope it out competes the weeds that may come through later in the spring next year.
